10 Predictions About The Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe
9. There Will Be Barely Any Scares
From what weve heard from the studio so far, it seems that Universal is forgetting that its Monsters movies were first and foremost horror films. Todays moviegoers might find the old school Monsters features less than frightening; however, in their heyday, they scared the heck out of audiences. The Universal Monsters franchise became a household name because moviegoers counted on it to deliver the chills over and over again. Eventually, the series entered more comedic terrain, but only after Universals once scary Monsters became old hat. Universals new phase of Monsters films will likely tone down the scares to appeal to horror fanatics and non-horror fans alike so they can reach the widest audience possible. With Roberto Orci at the helm of the new run of Universal Monsters movies, the scares will be few and far between. His Sleepy Hollow TV series offers some chills, but the premiere found the Headless Horseman engaging in a gunfight with police. Based on Orcis filmography so far, well assume hell up the ante on the monster action. Horror fans hoping for genuine scares in Universals new Monsters films will have to look elsewhere. The new films will likely be more Van Helsing than Nosferatu.
