10 Predictions For 2019 Movies That Everybody Got Wrong
6. A Tie Into The MCU - Dark Phoenix
The timing of Fox's final X-Men release was always going to be troubling. Coming shortly after the deal to take the property over to Disney, fans were less concerned about a satisfying end to the franchise, since the ship had already sailed on that idea, and more interested in when the characters would be introduced into the MCU.
Before its release, Dark Phoenix was pushed back on more than one occasion, and there was a feeling, a hope, that the reshoots the movies underwent had the primary objective of adding a tie in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether this would be something of Jean Grey's doing, or a ripple effect of Thanos' snap, fans just wanted something.
However, the reshoots were just a means to completely change the ending of the movie which was judged to be far too similar to that of Captain Marvel several months before. Instead, the only tenuous link between Dark Phoenix and the Marvel Cinematic Universe we could enjoy was the patch on the SWAT team uniforms that simply read 'MCU'.
