10 Predictions For Marvel Cinematic Universe's Future
1. Spider-Gwen
Another character who’s become wildly successful in recent years is the oddly named Spider-Gwen, the Spider-Woman of an alternate reality where Gwen Stacy was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. She was created as an ancillary character in the recent Spider-Verse event in the comics.
Her costume design seems to be the motivating factor behind her popularity and, despite its impractical hood, it’s a pretty brilliant outfit. Like Miles, she has also been folded into the reality of the regular Marvel Universe and trying to make the best of it.
It’s not one hundred percent clear who would have the film rights to the character, but there are rumors that Sony has been trying to make a Spider-Woman movie happen for a few years now and she’s a good candidate. Sony definitely has the rights to Gwen Stacy, but Spider-Gwen might be considered a separate entity. (Her created by credit belongs to Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez, with no mention of Steve Ditko or Stan Lee.) So, if there’s a multiverse in the MCU, that’s all the more reason to introduce Spider-Gwen. The movies definitely need more women.
Spider-Gwen is a pretty brand new character at this point, so it might feel a little too soon for her introduction into the MCU, but by the time we get around to Phase 4 and 5, she will have been around for much longer. Harley Quinn went from a relatively unknown sidekick in a black and red leotard to a sexualized female Deadpool in under five years. Now she’s a movie star. The same could happen with Gwen.
