10 Predictions For Marvel Cinematic Universe's Future
2. Alternate Universes
One of the biggest contributions of Doctor Strange was the acknowledgment of the multiverse. The Ancient One explains that magicians of their order utilize the power of alternate universes to perform spells. If we are to assume that the MCU multiverse operates the same way as the comic books, then there is an infinite amount of alternate earths, millions or billions featuring superheroes very similar to the ones we know and love.
It’s possible that we’ll see these alternate versions showing up down the line. This would be an easy way for the MCU to acknowledge some of the beloved character updates made in the comics (female Thor, Muslim Ms. Marvel, etc.) without forcing a permanent change on the films. Alterations that work on the page don’t necessarily translate to the screen, so this is a way for Marvel to have their cake and eat it, too.
Due to his increasing popularity and migration from the now defunct Ultimate Universe to the regular Marvel Universe of the comics, it’s only a matter of time before Miles Morales makes it to the cinema. With the multiverse in place, Miles could join the MCU as a refugee from a reality that’s been destroyed, like in the books, or as someone trapped in our universe, desperate to return to his own.
On top of that, there’s the Microverse, the subatomic realm introduced in Ant-Man. We know that Hank Pym’s wife and Hope’s mother Janet has been trapped there after sacrificing herself to save the day decades ago. Pym explains that the quantum realm is beyond time, so it’s possible she is still the same age she was when the tragedy struck.
Either way, it’s likely some trace of her will be detected Pym’s instruments and Scott and Hope will go on a rescue mission to the Microverse. It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point.
