10 Predictions For Marvel Cinematic Universe's Future

9. Captain America Will Wield The Energy Shield

Another consequence of Civil War is that Captain America no longer has his trademark shield. Tony guilted him into leaving it behind at the end of their fight.

During the ‘90s, in the comics, Cap also lost his shield and was given one made of energy, virtually identical to his physical one albeit slightly transparent. Since there is a precedent for this set by the books, it’s likely there will be some version of the energy shield in the movies, even if only in reference.

While Wakanda probably has enough vibranium to give Cap an entirely new shield, it would feel a little cheap if he just got a new one off-camera. Plus, it’s likely that giving up so much of the precious metal wouldn’t be popular with other members of the Wakandan government. T’Challa may be king, but he’s a king in the 21st century.

When the shield was originally constructed, it used what was thought to be the entire world’s supply of vibranium. Clearly Wakanda sat on a large stash for decades without telling the world. A secretive culture that distrusts the outside world doesn’t usually go tossing out gifts of its most valuable resource.

We do know that Wakanda has advanced technology and T’Challa’s intellect is up there with Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, so if he’s unwilling to give up the metal, he certainly has the technology to create the energy shield.

In the comics, it also had the ability to change into other objects, like a spear, but that might be a little too goofy for a film. Cap needs a shield and this is a great way to honor the past.
