10 Predictions For Sony's 2021 Mystery Spider-Man Spin-Off Movie

The Spider-Man crossover we've been waiting for could finally be on the horizon...

When it comes to cinematic universes, Marvel Studios' offering is without question the most profitable, well-known and enjoyable of them all. That hasn't, however, stopped Sony Pictures from assembling their very own using the Marvel characters that they actually hold the rights to, and there's something incredibly ironic in the fact that they've essentially chosen to center it around Spider-Man - the one character that they agreed to share with Marvel.

Though it seemed like they would be taking Spidey back after a short-lived bust-up with Marvel over the summer, they will continue to assist their counterpart in the production of the, as of yet, untitled third Spider-Man film set within the MCU - all while building their Spider-Verse/Venom-Verse/Marvel Universe (the name is still undecided, okay?) around him.

Spider-Man 3 is set to hit theaters in on 16 July 2021, but it appears that its release isn't the only major thing happening for Sony's apparent Spider-Verse, as the studio has scheduled another Marvel movie for release in October of that year.

It has yet to be revealed what the film is, but with Morbius, Venom 2 and Spider-Man 3 already on the horizon (not-to-mention the animated Into The Spider-Verse sequel), it's safe to say we're all intrigued as to what comes next. And, with that, let's make some predictions, shall we?

10. Hobgoblin

After Willem Dafoe's unforgettable turn as Norman Osborn in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, it's hard to even think about Spidey's villains without thinking of the legendary Green Goblin. And with all the chatter surrounding the character's eventual introduction in the MCU (which Sony would also have to be involved in), it's safe to say he'll probably be on our screens a lot in the coming years.

With that in mind, Sony might wish to differentiate their universe from the MCU by focusing on another of Spidey's more famous goblins: The Hobgoblin.

Without a doubt one of Spider-Man's most underrated villains, the ghoulish Hobgoblin's story would make for both a compelling and chilling offering and given the line-up of Marvel films Sony has been producing so far, it would be right up their street - and perfect for a release date on the outskirts of Halloween.
