Maybe we're getting way ahead of ourselves with our collective excitement and Sony had this date pencilled in for a long time before it became public knowledge, knowing that they were saving it for one of their already established properties. On that note, here comes the obligatory, "maybe it's just another sequel" entry.
Few people expected Venom to become the overwhelming success that it did. Some scoffed at Sony's attempts to form their own shared universe of Marvel heroes while others genuinely didn't like the film, and yet the studio have officially begun to establish exactly what they set out to do, with Morbius arriving this summer and Venom 2 in October - less than two years after its predecessor.
Make no mistake about it, Sony knows how to make things happen quickly - so don't be too surprised if this is untitled project is simply a placeholder for a sequel they've quietly been working on.
