10 Problems With The Avengers No One Wants To Admit

6. The First Twenty Minutes Were Actually Pretty Bad

The underwhelming car chase, Hawkeye turning evil and Loki€™s arrival on earth all occured in the first twenty minutes. Loki€™s arrival and the conversion of Hawkeye are important plot points, but they did not need to happen in such a prolonged scene. Despite the long period of time that we spent in SHIELD€™s secretive laboratory, we did not actually learn much; we found out that the tesseract has cosmic powers that people on earth did not fully understand, and we found out that Doctor Erik Selvig from Thor was now doing work for SHIELD (who he had vehemently opposed in the Thor film). Considering the high level of expectation of this film, it is hard not to be disappointed by such a weak opening scene. After watching the film more than once, it becomes laborious and unnecessarily long - the introductory scene could have been five minutes in length, leaving more time for the Avengers to fight amongst themselves or for Loki€™s plan to come to fruition.
