10 Problems With The Avengers No One Wants To Admit

5. It Focuses On Iron Man... A Lot

Marvel initially wanted to leave out supporting cast members from individual films, but at the request of Robert Downey Jr. they included Gwyneth Paltrow€™s Pepper Potts in the movie. Downey€™s loyalty to his supporting cast is laudable, but it was a waste of time within the film - Pepper gave us a look of exasperation on her private jet and had a quick conversation with Coulson, but she was not in any way moving the plot along or adding anything to the experience. Downey is one of the biggest stars of the MCU - Iron Man is one of the most popular superheroes on the planet, and the actor has become so synonymous with Tony Stark that it's hard to imagine anyone else taking the role. This gave him some leverage in negotiations, and he capitalised on the star power that the role has given him. Iron Man was the focus of the film - he was at the centre of the promotional image, he saved New York from the Nuclear Weapon, he stops the Helicarier from falling out of flight (you get the picture). By concentrating so much attention on Iron Man other characters, like Hawkeye and Captain America, were neglected in terms of character development and action scenes. The film originally had parts looking at how Cap dealt with modern life - these were cut to make room for the the flamboyant billionaire, philanthropist and playboy. Iron Man is a great character, but did the film need to focus so much on a hero who had already received two films when all the other characters had only been given one?
