10 Problems Only Movie Lovers Will Understand

8. When Everyone Finally Watches The Movie You Raved About Months Ago

Arrested Development Gif Alright, so this one's more than a little smug and snobby, but isn't it annoying when you talk about a great movie you've just seen, and nobody in your social circle has heard of it, or worse still, has any interest in watching it? This occurred with me and Let the Right One In, only for my friends to jump on the bandwagon four months later when it finally hit home video. Does this make me and like-minded folk come across as a hipsters? I suppose, but the problem isn't with me seeing it before everyone else, but that others dismissed it so errantly until others had piled on the hype. Is my opinion, as a film lover, not held in good value with my buddies? Apparently not. This ties in to the sense of "ownership" that a lot of people end up feeling towards cult films; I've had countless discussions with folks slightly older than myself, for instance, who saw Donnie Darko on its (very limited) theatrical release, and love to illustrate that they got there first, and so their appreciation for the film means more than yours or mine, which is, of course, utterly ludicrous.
