If the concept of Nicholas Cage playing an alpaca farmer confronted by a neon-drenched Lovecraftian cosmic horror sounds appealing, then Color Out Of Space is the film for you.

Adapted from H.P Lovecraft's short story The Colour Out Of Space, Richard Stanley's directorial comeback brings this strange tale to life to phenomenal effect. Centring around the Gardner family who move to a farmhouse outside of the fictional town of Arkham, their lives are thrown into an insane nightmare when a meteor crashes in front of their home, bringing with it an otherworldly colour.

Colouring their world in stunning hues of pink and purple, there's no denying just how spectacular Stanley's film is to look at (and listen to for that matter). Alongside the stunning cinematography though, this cosmic colour comes with some truly grotesque body horror as it amalgamates with all biological material it touches. A giant pink bug is really the least of the Gardeners' problems.

Complete with another gloriously over-the-top performance by Cage and bucket-loads of excess gore, Color Out Of Space is a rare treat for genre fans. In keeping with its Lovecraftian themes, the style only elevates the true existential terror that resides within.
