10 Questionable Criticisms Of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

2. The Trailers Gave Everything Away

The Criticism: If you'd seen all the trailers and footage released before the film, then you'd pretty much seen the movie. Doomsday had been revealed, Wonder Woman’s best moments were highlighted and Lex’s various plans were all detailed. If all of these moments were saved for the film itself, fans would have revelled in the surprises and reveals, but instead, DC spilled the beans too early and the film's plot felt like a poorly-kept secret.

Why It’s Questionable: A film should be judged on its merits as a film, and not in relation to its marketing. No movie is made any worse by the trailers, yet here they altered expectations and negatively affected how it was viewed.

Even with some added knowledge from the trailers, Batman V Superman was still a watchable film. Knowing about Wonder Woman's appearance in the final fight might have diminished the surprise, but her presence was still a welcome inclusion. Likewise, seeing hints at Batman and Superman's brawl may have shown too much, but that didn't make their showdown in the film boring.

A few more unexpected twists and turns likely would have caused audiences to enjoy it a bit more but it's a flimsy argument to suggest that the entire outing was ruined because of a couple of overcrowded trailers.
