10 Questionable Criticisms Of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice
1. The Knightmare Scenes Are Poorly Done
The Criticism: The Knightmare scenes came seemingly out of nowhere and served no real purpose in the film. They weren’t built up to, expanded upon or explained in any significant way. All they did was visualise what we already knew - that Batman was scared of Superman - albeit in a dystopian, nightmarish way.
Why It’s Questionable: If you overlook how jarring their inclusion is, these action scenes offer some of the most engaging and thrilling moments in the film. I mean, the portrayal of a war-torn Earth looks great and is a nice tease for the future of the DCEU. The issue then isn't that theses scenes were bad, it's more that they were put in the wrong place.
Had the film included Batman seeing the massive Omega symbol at the end (or even after the credits as a Marvel-style stinger hinting at Darkseid’s arrival_, fans would have gone nuts.
Practically, this chronology of events would also lead right into Batman's formation of a team to deal with such a threat - it would would explain his fear of what's coming and construct some urgency in the assembling of the Justice League. Instead, as it stands now, the reasons for the Justice League needing to exist are still fairly muddled.
The filmmakers had the right idea and execution with these scenes, they just shoehorned them in the wrong place.
Do you think these criticisms are still fair? What defence would you present for Batman V Superman? Let us know in the comments.
