3. And That Girl, For That Matter?
Marvel ComicsOh yeah, there's a girl in the Guardians Of The Galaxy, too! You might not have noticed, since it wasn't until the
latest trailer that she actually got a spoken line (sure, Marvel made a film about a talking raccoon before DC made a Wonder Woman movie, but at least Wonder Woman's guaranteed to talk). Which is a shame, because Gamora actually has one of the most interesting backstories in the comic books - which, considering the whole bonkers origin of Rocket Raccoon, is saying something - and we're pretty stoked to see Zoe Saldana bring her to life on the big screen. If she's not totally cut out in favour of more Bradley-Cooper-as-Raccoon footage, anyway. So you know this Thanos guy who everybody hates, especially Drax? Well, Gamora's his adopted daughter. So chew on that for a bit. This is another example of that whole "interesting dynamic" that Abnett and Lanning were hoping for when they put these characters together in the comics. Once again an orphan of the Badoon, Gamora was found by Thanos and raised by him as a living weapon, taking advantage of her inherent superhuman strength, agility and healing factor, giving her additional training in being an evil murderous badass. Nicknamed "the deadliest woman in the whole galaxy" (not very snappy, but evocative), she eventually sacked off her evil fake dad, becoming pals with Captain Marvel and Drax in the process. A bunch of funky stuff happened with Adam Warlock happened in the meantime, but the important thing is that Gamora went from being a horrible supervillain to rehabilitating herself after being rescued by Star-Lord and joining the Guardians. Yay, it all worked out!
