10 Under The Radar Talents Who Made Cinema Awesome

1. Stan Winston (Practical Effects, Props, Makeup)

Many of the most famous modern movie monsters came from the mind of one man, special effects supervisor and make-up artist Stan Winston. Beginning in 1980, Winston was the primary visual effects worker on The Thing, The Terminator, Aliens, Predator, Edward Scissorhands, Jurassic Park, and Terminator 2: Judgement Day, all iconic films he worked on in a little over a decade. Winning three Oscars for his indelible contributions to just about every iconic monster movie of the 80's and 90's, Winston is easily one of the most important figures in modern blockbusters and is still going strong, having worked on recent films such as Pandorum, Avatar, and Shutter Island. Winston is yet another example of how one person can completely change how an entire genre is viewed. By creating many of the most iconic creatures and monsters in cinema history, Winston has impacted the art of film more than many actors and directors could ever dream of doing, and all movie fans owe him, and all the other people on this list, a debt of gratitude. I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
