Nominated for: Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actress (Betsy Palmer) - 1980 Essentially a low budget knock-off of definitive slasher classic Halloween, Friday The 13th arrived in cinemas with mostly negative reviews. It was panned as derivative, cheap, exploitative and needlessly gory, and Razzie nominations followed. As time passed, though, not only did genre fans take to the film's cheap, efficient slasher business, but Friday The 13th itself became the film that was getting ripped off. All the lesser teens-at-camp-menaced-by-a-serial-killer movies, including Friday's own sequels, wound up making the first film look pretty good by comparison. In a similar sense, the original Annie musical's five Razzie nominations now seem a little harsh when the recent remake was a far worse film that was only nominated twice. For horror lovers, Friday The 13th is now spoken of as one of the classic examples of its time and type. In 2001, the American Film Institute even nominated it for its 100 Years...100 Thrills list.
