10 Razzie Nominees Now Embraced As Classics

9. DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story, And Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy

Nominated for: Worst Actor (Ben Stiller) - 2005 When the Razzies take against an actor or a film, they often like to show this with overkill - nominations are showered on the object of their hate regardless of any other factor. In the 2005 awards, a Worst Actor nomination for Ben Stiller was no surprise after the complete disaster of Envy, in which the combined talents of Stiller, Jack Black and Barry Levinson made a film that was universally panned. The only thing was, the Razzie committee decided instead to nominate Stiller for every movie that he'd made in the previous year. These included the admittedly sub-par romcom Along Came Polly; a perfectly enjoyable, if utterly forgettable, buddy comedy remake of Starsky & Hutch; and two bona fide 21st century comedy classics, DodgeBall and Anchorman. Both were met with a slightly muted response on release - there were critics who dismissed DodgeBall and Anchorman as puerile, dumb, and crude, and they are, but that is partly what makes them so funny. That The Wall Street Journal initially refused to review DodgeBall as not worthy of attention, before finally calling it "erratic, imbecilic if not completely idiotic, inconsequential in even the small scheme of things, and thoroughly entertaining", should tell you everything you need to know about changing critical opinion of the film. On Time Out's list of the 100 Best Comedy Films, both movies appear. Anchorman, in which Stiller's role is just a cameo, was declared the 6th funniest movie of all time.
