10 Razzie Nominees Now Embraced As Classics

4. The Blair Witch Project

Won: Worst Actress (Heather Donahue) - 2000 Nominated for: Worst Picture - 2000 Deeply divisive at the time (and perhaps still today), The Blair Witch Project is a film featuring amateur acting and in which very little happens. Lead actress Heather Donahue panics, shakes the camera around and films up her snotty nose. Nevertheless, the film was pioneering and original, while its influence on the whole horror genre in the 21st century cannot be overstated. Better found footage films have come since, undoubtedly, but it was Blair Witch that kicked the whole thing off. Given that, it's hard to suggest this ultra low budget breakout film is at all equivalently bad as fellow nominee The Haunting, the worst example of lazy, bad-remake-based, expensive mainstream horror. With an 87% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a placing at 12th on the Chicago Film Critics Association's 100 Scariest Movies, Blair Witch's classic status is now pretty established.
