10 Really Dumb Moments In Otherwise Flawless Horror Films
10. The Police Leave The Guy Whose Life Is At Risk Alone - The Invisible Man
Based on the H.G. Wells novel, The Invisible Man is an absolute classic, and one of the best films in the original Universal Monsters series. The fact that it's so great and well written makes this one bizarre thing stand out even more, though. Towards the end of the film, Dr. Griffin (The Invisible Man) has threatened to murder Arthur Kemp, and in fact he said he will do so at 10pm the following day. How nice to provide such specific information! The police decide to use Arthur as bait in order to catch the man, which makes sense, and for a while they're doing a pretty good job at protecting him. Then, out of nowhere, they decide to disguise Arthur as a police officer and let him drive away. Huh? Arthur drives down the road by himself at 9:50pm. It's very nearly the exact time Dr. Griffin said he'd commit the murder, and yet the police have let Arthur be completely alone. It would be one thing if the 10pm deadline went by and they decided to let Arthur go, but why on Earth would they ever allow him to be without protection at the exact minute given for his death? Sure enough, Griffin shows up and drives Arthur off the road, killing him. Good going, cops!
