6. It Will Be Career Damaging
Anyone involved in the project is risking being typed as "that guy/girl in, on, who directed, wrote, starred in 'Fifty Shades of Grey'". It could boost careers in the here and now, but anyone who wants to make a living in Hollywood needs longevity, and Fifty Shades certainly won't guarantee that, especially if it's a pile of fifty shades of brown. Financially, it's a secured hit. It can be produced on the (relatively) cheap and will open to huge box office numbers and rack up the dough faster than Bimbo Bakeries. But oodles and oodles of cash doesn't mean it's going to be a quality film. Chances are, it'll be a cheesy mess of garbage not even worth the price of admission. But these days the plan is, if it makes money let's make more. Actors, writer, directors, etc. will be signed to multiple picture deals and forced to fulfill contractual obligations despite how good or bad the films are. If they suck, which seems fairly inevitable, the actors especially will have these character plastered all over their reputations forever. Is it a sure thing that it'll cause the downfall of careers, certainly not. But it's risky. Could it do just the opposite and launch people into mega stardom? Absolutely. So it's a bit of a 50/50 Shades of Grey deal though it's not one I'd want to take.
