10 Reasons Ant-Man Will Be Marvel’s First Flop

10. Edgar Wright's Departure

Probably what will stand as the biggest mar on Ant-Man's reputation until it can stand on its little legs itself is Edgar Wright leaving the director's chair. It serves as a reminder that Marvel is a heavily producer-led company and was, for many, the start of niggling doubt about the film. At the very least it's the first sign of a troubled production and makes the whole thing a less exciting prospect; one of the key reasons to be excited about the film was Wright's involvement. Wright had been working on the film since 2006 (just after Hot Fuzz), meaning it actually predates the rest of the MCU. Since then things have obviously been adjusted to have the adventures of Pym and Lang fit amongst those of Stark and Rogers, but clearly at some point things went too far. Rumours suggest that the fall out between Wright and Marvel was over the character of Scott Lang and how unlikeable he'd be - Wright has a history of characters with a skewed concept of relatability - although in the wake of the Civil War announcement for Captain America 3 some have suggested it was more to do with the character's gel to the wider world.
