10 Reasons Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Might Just Be Awesome
8. The Dark Knight Returns Takes Us In A New Direction
When Zack Snyder attended Comic-Con to announce a Man of Steel sequel, he quickly handed over to Harry Lennix to read out a passage that plenty of people are familiar with. Numerous fans in attendance quickly recognised the dialogue and understood its implications: Batman and Superman were gonna throw down. This wasnt just going to be a movie where the Super Friends join hands to vanquish Lex Joker and toast marshmallows afterwards there would be fisticuffs. The passage in question came from The Dark Knight Returns, Frank Millers seminal, celebrated graphic novel that took Batman and arguably comic books in general into hitherto untapped levels of darkness, complexity and maturity. The current movie climate in which superheroes are treated and taken seriously owes a substantial debt to Miller. And so too, obviously, does Dawn of Justice, the central premise of a feud between Batman and Superman being its primary foundation. Weve seen a few versions of Batman on screen, from the mildly-insane Burton films to the uber-camp Joel Schumacher mess, but we are yet to see an older, wiser and, perhaps, more spiteful forty-something Batman taking on a super-powered frenemy. Its intriguing and promising, and we can only hope theres plenty of Dark Knight Returns DNA running through the film. Comic book fans couldnt ask for more.
I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
