As if we thought that the announcement of a Batman vs. Superman movie last month wasn't crazy enough, the Internet imploded once again last night with the reveal that the "older Batman" that Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer have been seeking out has been handed to Ben Affleck. The immediate response in the Twittersphere was primarily negative, with many drawing attention to Affleck's past failures in the comic book genre, and the fact that he's simply not the same caliber performer as our favourite Batman, Christian Bale. This is certainly a time to step back and
think about Affleck's casting for a minute. Though the actor is still answering for his past sins, there are plenty of reasons to believe that he will make for a brilliant Batman, and here's just 10 of them...
10. Affleck Won't Be Taking It Lightly
In November 2006, Affleck spoke about the tremendously negative reception to his role as Daredevil, saying that, "by playing a superhero in Daredevil, I have inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero...Wearing a costume was a source of humiliation for me and something I wouldn't want to do again soon." Interesting it is, then, that Affleck has been lured back into playing another superhero, and given the tremendous potential for him to humiliate himself again, you can bet that he's not taking it lightly. Given the trajectory of Affleck's career lately, this could very well undo all of the goodwill he's brought us in recent years, so one can imagine that he's pretty damn confident in the vision that Snyder, Nolan and Goyer have laid out for him. This won't be another "take the money and run" paycheck role like Daredevil.
