10 Reasons Black Widow Could Shape The MCU's Future

1. Judgement Day

The Living Tribunal
Marvel Studios

In Doctor Strange, Mordo mentions “The Staff of the Living Tribunal.” This seems as a throwaway line, but then precedent shows that Marvel are experts in teasing future Marvel characters, so this line may hold greater purpose.

The Living Tribunal is seen as a judge of the Marvel universe and the realities within it. His inclusion would make the entity the most powerful being in the MCU by a distance, with the ability to warp reality. Avengers: Infinity War screenwriters have previously announced their intentions of including the Living Tribunal in their movie, therefore there has been discussions to involve the entity in the franchise.

So why would the Living Tribunal have any importance to the Black Widow movie?

We know that the movie may be visiting multiple time periods of Black Widow’s life, post-Civil War, Budapest and potentially her childhood. Could this movie be a cosmic trial for Natasha’s life by the Living Tribunal, judging whether her life can be spared based off her history. The movie will be visiting important moments in Natasha’s life and this would be a good reason to why this solo movie is coming out now and not in the previous phases.

Understandably, this a bold theory and it may sound like a movie that should be including ghosts from Christmas past, present and future. However, Loki has been killed twice in the franchise and now has a spinoff TV series, so anyone can return for Marvel!
