10 Reasons Black Widow Could Shape The MCU's Future
2. Iron Maiden
In the trailer, it’s easy to notice a number prominent of characters who will play a part in the movie. Black Widow is obviously the star, Yelena has obvious chemistry with Natasha and engages in a fight sequence with her, while Red Guardian will seemingly provide the comedic element. And then there's Rachel Weisz as Melina, who we know less about.
Melina is a character who in the comics had grown up in Natasha’s shadow and developed a hatred for Black Widow, eventually being sent to assassinate the spy. This type of character does sound very familiar to MCU fans, with a host of villains falling under the same motives like Yellowjacket and Aldrich Killian. However, similar to Taskmaster, Melina has potential to develop in future movies.
Once leaving the Russian services, Melina became the Iron Maiden and joined the Thunderbolts, which could provide a potential anti-hero team for future MCU movies, with the absence of a concrete Avengers team.
Another team which Iron Maiden has been part of which could be an intriguing team for a future movie could be the Femizons. This team is built up of female criminals/villains looking to conquer Earth where women rule over men. This potential team with Iron Maiden involved has potential due to the popularity of the female heroes currently in the MCU. There have been rumours of a female Avengers team which may demand a strong set of female supervillains, including Melina.
