There are way, way too many jump scares in this movie, especially earlier on, by way of countless fake-outs where someone is being pranked, which make the film feel extremely lazy from the outset with their overwhelming cheapness.

Again, it might work for teen audiences who aren't so acquainted with the tropes of the horror genre and found footage in particular, but to anyone old enough to have experienced the emergence of found footage, it will all feel woefully old-hat.

This is one of the most compelling pieces of evidence that this new Blair Witch really isn't much more than a cynical exercise in selling a classic movie back to audiences with the least amount of effort possible.
