10 Reasons Blair Witch Is A Crushing Disappointment

9. The Characters Are Totally Forgettable

Say what you want about the original movie, but one of its biggest strengths is that it featured well-developed characters with a real sense of humanity. This is part of what made it so effective.

Unfortunately the new movie's expanded roster of characters are largely just stereotypically good-looking fodder for the Blair Witch and feel much more like "movie protagonists" than the more normal-looking Heather, Mike and Josh from the original.

Without heading to Google, it's tough to even remember the names of the new characters, and there's little to them as people beyond, "Heather's brother", "the obnoxious black guy", "the two weirdos" and so on.

The original made us care about its protagonists and so the end result proved so much more viscerally affecting, yet here most of the characters are just forgettable ciphers, such that at points you might even end up rooting for the Blair Witch.
