10 Reasons Bob Orci Directing Star Trek 3 Is The Dumbest Decision Ever

4. He's Already Expected To Fail

Any Star Trek movie is a pretty major cinematic event but one that is being released to mark the 50th Anniversary has to be extra special. It will be used to drum up excitement and interest in Star Trek as well as dispel any bad aftertaste remaining from €˜Into Darkness.€™ But with one half of the writing team that botched the previous two scripts now directing as well as penning the next movie, the expectation is that the film will fail critically even if it makes hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office. If the run up to a film's release is met with expectations of failure, the studio and PR department has a hard job selling the film and getting people excited about it. Having given the untested Bob Orci the directing duties for Star Trek 3, Paramount has put itself in a corner. Where discussions about the film should be about things like the plot and the villain, you now have a situation where people will be anticipating how much Orci will screw up. And that takes attention away from the rest of the movie, because now it has now become the Bob Orci show.
