10 Reasons Bob Orci Directing Star Trek 3 Is The Dumbest Decision Ever

5. No Credibility

Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman are not regarded as a team of writers that deliver critically acclaimed scripts. Their films might make a good return at the box office but then so do Adam Sandler ''comedies.'' Nikki Finke at Deadline.com wrote:
€˜€™Whenever I mention Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci to bigtime screenwriters and producers who can€™t get anything going now, a lot of teeth-gnashing and profanity-spewing ensues. And the last time I wrote about the writing team, the comments section spewed hate about what hacks they are.€™€™
Their reputation is self-inflicted. The biggest problem with the first two JJ Abrams Star Trek movies were the scripts. Abrams might have directed the hell out of the films and received the majority of the flak from the fans but the real reason those films were terrible was because the scripts were an unfocused mess. Combine that with their other writing turkey jobs like the Michael Bay Transformers movies and Cowboys and Aliens, you can see why people are left wondering how they keep managing to get work in Hollywood. It might have something to do with that they are very good at saying €˜€™Yes€™€™ to whatever studio bosses want. Film lore is littered with examples of why studio bosses are usually the worst people to go to for ideas when it comes to making a movie. They will give you a list of what they want from any given film, even if most of the suggestions make no sense. So when you get a team of writers who are more than happy to fill their movies with a cluster of ideas that their bosses want, it€™s no wonder why they get hired. The lack of credibility with critics and audiences means seeing the words €˜€™Star Trek Directed by Bob Orci€™€™ will leave any movie fan retching with fear or turn the whole event into a joke.
