10 Reasons The Comic Book Movie Fad Is Here To Stay

2. They Are Telling Stories On An Unprecedented Scale

When Marvel brought together the Avengers in Avengers Assemble after building a narrative across Iron-Man, Captain America, and Thor's standalone features, it set a new precedent for cinematic storytelling. Comic books have been doing interconnected storylines since their inception, but we are only now seeing stories of this scale unfold across the big screen. In the past, the medium of the novel used to be the only venue for long-form stories that could reach the limits of human imagination. Eventually, cinema and television caught up. TV shows like The Wire broke through the limitations of episodic TV to weave epic dramas with massive cast of characters. While TV has come a long way, it still lacks the grand scale that cinema possesses. The big screen is the largest canvas artists can create a story on: Marvel is doing it at a galactic level. Marvel's Phase One and Phase Two are charting new territory on the big screen. DC is following in Marvel's trailblazing footsteps with its own cinematic universe. Both companies are only just getting started. The scope will only increase as time goes on. Audiences will be eager to see how grand these epic tales will get.
