10 Reasons The Comic Book Movie Fad Is Here To Stay
6. They Have Decades Of Material Still To Adapt
The comic book medium has endured for almost a century now. In that time, countless gallons of ink and many forests' worth of paper have depicted superheroics in every fashion imaginable. The Marvel and DC universes contain multiverses, alternate realities, and alternate timelines separate from their established cannons. At times, comic back continuity grew so convoluted even comic book publishers had a hard time keeping track. DC famously had to reset its continuity with the 1985 miniseries Crisis on Infinite Earths because the comics' numerous alternate realities had grown too confusing. Outside of the X-Mens recent time traveling story Days of Future Past, comic book movies seem intent on shying away from alternate realities. There are a lot of tales to adapt if they decide to dive in. At the moment, adaptations of Young Adult (YA) fiction are a blockbuster trend, with titles like Divergent, The Mortal Instruments, and The Giver trying to replicate the mammoth success of The Hunger Games. Eventually though, the well of bestselling YA novels will dry up and the fad will perish, while comic book adaptations won't face that drought in the near future, because of the strength of the source.
