10 Reasons Disney Needs To Make Solo 2 Happen

4. Star Wars Stories Need To Come Back

After fans realised that The Force Awakens, the long-anticipated seventh instalment in the Skywalker Saga, was nothing more than a soft reboot of A New Hope, the prospect of Anthology movies (as they were then called), each exploring a different aspect of the wider Star Wars Universe, became tantalising, a chance for Disney to tell completely new stories unburdened by fan expectations and the mythos surrounding George Lucas' original story.

Unfortunately, Disney played things a little too safely, with Rogue One and Solo both riffing off storylines and characters introduced in the Original Trilogy, leaving fans' hopes for Star Wars Stories that would truly explore the wider universe a distant dream. Other spin-off rumours: a Boba Fett story, an Obi-Wan story, etc., etc., seemed to indicate Disney were content with remaining within the borders of the diminishing and insular existing Star Wars universe, leaving many fans disgruntled.

The appetite for these spin-off movies lagged so considerably that after Solo's box office performance, the concept seemed scrapped all together, with Disney taking stock and re-evaluating their business plan and trajectory for the Star Wars series.

A low budget genre-hopping sequel to Solo, however, could revive the concept. A true dark and gritty space noir or gangster film, an outrageous Miller and Lord style comedy, a seriously arty character study... a different take on Solo could whet fans' appetite for more Star Wars Stories that dare to do something different, perhaps even leading to Disney taking a punt at the unknown.
