10 Reasons Edge Of Tomorrow Is The Most Important Blockbuster Of 2014
6. It Has A Plot (Part II)
A point so important it needs reiterating, albeit this time for different reasons. Audiences have come to expect too little from action blockbusters: the phrase It didnt have a plot is one youll typically hear from friends and family half a dozen times or more over the summer period, yet still youll turn out to see these films yourself. (Don't worry, you're not alone.) If the explosions are big and the special effects are cutting edge, then who cares whether the story really makes sense or ever goes anywhere? Because there are so few alternatives, youre almost forced into watching lesser fare. A bit of mindless entertainment that you can switch off through and enjoy is perfect from time to time, but it feels like audiences and studios alike are getting more and more comfortable with lesser and lesser quality. So when something comes along that has a plot, that has strong characters, and that also has the epic explosions and the mind-blowing special effects, its that much more important that everyone turns out to see it as well.
Movie / TV enthusiast with a DVD and Blu-ray collection bigger than I'd care to admit. If anyone is offering creative / furniture solutions to house them, I'm all ears.
