10 Reasons Edge Of Tomorrow Is The Most Important Blockbuster Of 2014

7. It Has A Plot

You read that right: an honest-to-God plot. Just like Godzilla, another epic Warner Bros. summer blockbuster, it has a clearly-defined plot with its own beginning and end. It doesn€™t spend time in the final act setting up the next instalment in the franchise. It dedicates itself to itself, and in a market saturated with franchises, that€™s a rare occurrence. Franchises can deliver some of the best blockbusters of the year, particularly those emerging in the past few years, but you can always tell the boys from the men when one starts to fall down at the last hurdle in an effort to coax you back whilst the other is triumphant to the end. To a certain extent, thinking about sequels can come later: you get one shot at the movie you€™re making, and you should want it to be the best it can be. Not just because there€™s no guarantee there€™ll be another, but because it should stand up on its own two legs and work as is. That doesn€™t seem like too much to ask.
