10 Reasons Fast & Furious 9 Is A Cinematic Car Wreck

5. The First Half Really Drags

It's hard to remember any of the Fast and Furious films having a duller stretch than the first half of F9.

Early on, there's an action sequence in Central America which is both dull and overly cartoonish, before the characters then split up to follow various different leads. The rest of the first half is little more than a series of snooze-inducing dialogue scenes, meaningless cameos and exposition dumps, and the humour and thrills that define this franchise are almost entirely absent.

Additionally, throughout this first half everyone is really just going to be waiting for Han to reveal himself but it takes ages for that to actually happen.

The second half of the film, which has more action, is definitely better but only by a bit; the poor writing and mishandled action sequences ensure that this remains at the two-star level for the entire thing.
