1. They Call Themselves Cinephiles
Why shouldn't you go out with a cinephile? The number one and most obvious reason is they call themselves cinephiles. If I met a girl for the first time and she introduced herself as "Hannah the cinephile," I'd assume this girl was either really smart and pretentious or putting on some weird front by being really smart and pretentious. Not a good first impression in my books. A cinephile implies a certain air of douchebaggery. Remember that term? Here, we will go into it a bit deeper. Douchebags are people, who really don't know they're annoying the hell out of everyone. Douchebags think they're awesome or brotastic or really above it all or against the current, but they're either just very ignorant or really angry. To call oneself a cinephile requires a bravery of sorts, which I can admire, but it can stretch so far into apathy and ill will towards everyone else that to call oneself a cinephile really just means you're OK with being a douchebag. While people can admire a person who has a vast knowledge of things such as film theory and criticism, no one really admires people that lord it over other people and think their knowledge comes with a higher status in social circles. If you've dated a person, who thought he or she was right all the time no matter what, then you know what's coming. Don't date a cinephile. If anything, date a closeted cinephile, at least they have sense to be ashamed about it.

I'm a thinker/fantasizer who writes down his thoughts and fantasies hoping it makes sense to everyone else. Also I'm an aspiring screenwriter, but if I can work in film at all, I'd be happy. One day you may hear the name Ryan Kim and associate it with "Academy Award winning writer" or with "where's that guy with my coffee." If the latter comes true, please let it be Paul Thomas Anderson's coffee I'm getting.
