10 Reasons Future Movie Fans Will Definitely Ridicule 2013

10. 21 & Over

21 & Over American Pie has a lot to answer for. Not content with giving the world Seann William Scott in a role that suggested far more universal appeal than turned out to be the case, it also inspired a raft of copycat movies, including its own indescribably bad sequels (especially the spin-offs.) The latest of that crop, 21 & Over, takes the ensemble elements of American Pie and the spirit of self-discovery, and pushes it through a filter of a million films we've all seen, like Superbad, The Hangover and Old School, resulting in the kind of despicable "cumming of age" movie that would make Steven Spielberg spin in his grave. If he was dead. Why So Ridiculous? Like The Bling Ring (which pretends to have a politicised agenda, but plainly doesn't,) 21 & Over is a reflection of everything that's wrong about Hollywood's modern mythologising of hedonism without consequence. Okay, so maybe there are a few consequences in there, but like The Hangover, there's just no legacy, other than the potential for terrible sequels and spin-offs. 21 & Over represents the worst of the YOLO generation, pretending that living life like a modern Animal House, and making a beer-soaked disgrace of yourself is in some way to be applauded. Future commenters will no doubt look back at this as the precise moment when the whole world caught Chlamydia, and celebrated the fact with a dumb-as-rocks movie.
