10 Reasons Ghostbusters Isn't As Bad As You Think

7. It Pokes Fun At Its Own Controversy

If you thought that Paul Feig and his cast of accomplished comedians wouldn't engage with the controversy surrounding the movie's production, you clearly underestimated them.

Though it isn't a huge part of the movie, they poke some light fun at the concern, both justified and not, over the movie. In one scene, a YouTube commenter says in response to the female quartet, "B****es don't be hunting no ghosts", reflecting the sexist bile that has flooded the web over the last few months in particular, and a remark is made about not reading all the rubbish written online about them.

Perhaps somewhat inadvertently, the villain Rowan is himself somewhat reminiscent of the stereotypical woman-hating man-child weirdo you might see trawling message boards, spouting abusive messages about the film.

Again, not a major component of the plot, but a fun engagement with the nonsense whining that has taken over the Internet ever since the film was first announced.
