10 Reasons Guardians Of The Galaxy Is Better Than The Avengers

8. It Brings Previously Unknown Characters To The Screen With Real Confidence

The Avengers was a safe bet - there's no doubt about that. It was always going to be a success. Marvel had taken risks previously by making an Iron Man movie (and a sequel), a rebooted Hulk movie, a Captain America movie and a Thor movie - and all of them were relatively successful and well-received. As a result, the ensemble Avengers movie was full of already established characters and there was no real risk involved. Having had the main heroes appear in their own movies, in completely different settings and scenarios, it was always going to be an exciting concept and a winning formula to bring them all together. Audiences were bound to go wild for something so unique. Guardians of the Galaxy, however, brought a host of high-profile stars together and gave them completely unknown roles - they were playing characters who had never been seen on screen before. Nobody who isn't familiar with comic books had ever heard of Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Drax the Destroyer, Nebula, Ronan the Accuser, Yondu or the Nova Corps - hell, in some of those cases, even comic book readers weren't overly familiar with those characters - and yet, by showing faith in their own source material, Marvel brought this highly diverse bunch of alien misfits to the big screen with real confidence and surprised everyone.
