On top of all this, marketing Guardians is going to be a huge nightmare. How do you market a film which features one human-looking guy, a green-skinned woman, a green-and-red-skinned brute, a talking raccoon and a giant tree monster? The main point is in making audiences aware of who these characters are, and the first trailer showed a lot of smarts on Marvel's part: the perp line-up allowed us to be introduced to the characters in a way that seemed natural, and Peter Serafinowicz's "What the Hell?" was a subtle way of implying that we're supposed to find the whole thing pretty strange. A simple way to sell the movie would be to heavily milk the "It's Marvel! MCU!" card, as that just makes sense (as long as they don't go overboard). What the next trailer needs to do is let us know more about the characters, especially Rocket and Groot, while emphasising the comic tone and action-packed set-pieces. I do worry if the use of Blue Swede's Hooked On a Feeling might put some people off, though: we all love a nicely epic, orchestral tune, don't we?
