10 Reasons Guardians Of The Galaxy Might Fail

6. Rocket Raccoon & Groot

Easily the most daring and potentially disastrous part of the movie is the fact that it features two characters who are not just entirely CGI, but are, well, a raccoon and a tree monster. Selling these two characters to the general public will be especially challenging, though playing up the fact that they're voiced by Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper will certainly help. I think more than the voice work, it really depends on the technical crew to bring these characters to life. If we're unable to disconnect from the idea that these are just digital objects, it's going to be more difficult to immerse ourselves in what they're doing. They need to believable within the environments we're seeing, though to be fair, from what we've seen so far, the visual effects look astounding, and I think this is one area Gunn will be unlikely to screw up. The fact that he had a group of raccoons in his production office before shooting started for reference purposes is certainly a good sign.
