10 Reasons IT Is Better Than The Original

6. The Scares Are Much More Intense

While the Tim Curry version of It is packed with scary moments, especially during its first half, it ultimately feels decidedly more mild and tame compared to the new movie, not merely because of the permissive R rating, but also Andy Muschietti's skillful direction.

Muschietti does a fantastic job ensuring that Pennywise's appearances become increasingly scarier and more intense over the course of the movie, and though there are perhaps a few too many jump scares for some, the pervasive terror that Pennywise wreaks on the Losers is palpable throughout.

While Curry's Pennywise was often much more campy and silly, the new version is a far more intimidating, in-your-face terror.
