5. Actors Want The Role

Given how meaty the character is, it’s not a surprise that plenty of actors want the role of John Stewart. It would be a huge opportunity in a potentially massive franchise for an often underrepresented minority.

For example, Tyrese Gibson, who had a surprisingly strong 12 Years A Slave audition, has been actively campaigning on Instagram, posting fan posters and reciting the Green Lantern oath. Then there’s Common, who almost played the role in Justice League: Mortal, but has now joined Suicide Squad in a different role instead. And, of course, there’s Idris Elba, who’s a popular fan choice for this role, along with a hundred other characters.

Even if the role was for Hal Jordan, it’s likely there would still be a lineup of actors campaigning for that role, but the passionate outcry from talented actors at the mere suggestion of Stewart is an inspiring sign for the use of the character.
