3. It'd Differentiate The New Movie From The 2011 Disaster

The 2011 Green Lantern film was an unmitigated disaster, suffering both terrible reviews and bombing at the box office. Both DC and the fans want nothing more than to put it behind them, but it should remain a very large concern for the company's brain trust going forward.

One of the easiest ways to move on is to introduce a new lead character. And with that new character comes his new setting, turmoil, and antagonists. Gone is the familiar air field where Hal Jordan works and the evil purple mentor who he doesn’t listen to. Instead, replace that with the real inner city of Detroit and an angry alien whose planet John Stewart allowed to be destroyed. As such, the narrative would become refreshingly different.

It’s apparent that with a simple conceptual change, Green Lantern wouldn’t just have a new character, it would be a new movie entirely.
