10 Reasons Marvel's Phase 3 Will Be Great

9. Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange

Director Scott Derrickson may seem like an odd choice to helm a superhero movie, but his track record in horror film (both as a director and writer) shows that Marvel is looking to go beyond regular action-flick conventions with Doctor Strange. Derrickson wrote and directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister, two of the most terrifying films of the last decade. While it's unlikely that Doctor Strange will be a pure horror flick like those were, giving the flavor of such movies to Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme will establish it as unique right off the bat. The casting of Stephen Strange himself has also made news. Earlier this week, it was announced that Benedict Cumberbatch had signed on to the title role, but Feige insisted that the role had not officially been cast yet. Still, Cumberbatch - who's mostly know for BBC's Sherlock and Star Trek: Into Darkness - is a choice that fandom seems to have embraced. If Cumberbatch and Derrickson do work together on Doctor Strange, the result will be totally different from anything we've seen before.
