10 Reasons Marvel's Phase 3 Will Be Great

8. The Inhumans Make Things Weird And Experimental

Yeah, yeah, the Guardians of the Galaxy were weird - but more than that, they were funny. The Inhumans are really strange. Long ago, the Kree aliens experimented on a group of humans, exposing them to crystals that gave them superpowers. These augmented few became known as Inhumans, lived in the kingdom of Attilan in the Himalayans, and continued to give their descendants powers with the same Terrigen Crystals. Today, the Inhumans are ruled by their king, Black Bolt, and recent worldwide exposure to the crystals' Terrigen mists has caused "Terrigenesis" to spread over the world, creating thousands of new Inhumans. Some have claimed that the recent preponderance of Inhumans in Marvel Comics is an attempt by the publisher to have another X-Men-style property, one which they can commit to a film at their own studio. Either way, the tale of the Inhumans - and the dynamic of the whole royal family - is a strange one. Their powers and mutations are too long and varied to list here, and their cold personalities are fairly detached from humanity - and everything we've come to accept about Marvel's cinematic universe. This could be Marvel's biggest gamble, but it's heartening to see them try.
