10 Reasons Metallica's Through The Never Will Rip Your Face Off

1. Interactive Ride the Lightning Album Art

Krk Now we're talking. The perfect 'fan moment', and the one to convert any of the naysayers; 'Ride the Lightning'. One of the most impressive pieces of heavy music from all time, starting on-album with a thunderous riff harmonised through multiple guitars before Lars' iron fists come bearing down with perfectly placed cymbal-crashes, letting loose the beast that was the young Metallica onto an unsuspecting world. Almost 30 years later and with the budget of Through The Never's epic scope bringing about a 'skies-the-limit' ideology, what could the band possibly do to fully realise the potential IMAX power of this track? Construct a gigantic, working electric chair surrounded by Tesla coils of course. Yup, as the song has been gathering steam a large ominous object descends from above the band, before being revealed to be the chair in question. The crowd cheer, as Ride The Lightning's album artwork also featured such a chair, and the realisation of such a thing is badass enough. Then we reach the solo, and as a resilient Kirk Hammett fires through the first few bars, the chair remains looming overhead. Cutting to the midpoint heralds a total pace-change and a flurry of notes as Hammett dives into one of the most satisfying pieces of guitar-led music ever recorded. The chair then kicks into life, blasting gigantic bolts of electricity in all directions, including directly at the camera. The use of multiple coils this size was genuinely life-threatening, and has effected all the equipment so much that even on the professional recording you can still hear the sheer power of them firing away alongside the band. I challenge you to think of anything more metal than that! And there we have it, I've tried to put into words just how blown away I was when witnessing some of the entries on this list. Please let me know in the comments what you thought of the film and it's crazy ideas, and maybe throw some more face-ripping moments in the pot!
