10 Reasons The New Peanuts Film Will Be A Complete Success
6. Bill Melendez' Snoopy
Bill Melendez directed several dozen Peanuts specials and television episodes. Very few of the specials were not done by him. And since the beginning Bill Melendez has always been the voice of both Snoopy and Woodstock. A recent statement about the new film confirms they will be using Melendez' original recordings as the voice of Snoopy. That's something die hard fans can celebrate and something new fans will find as a gift. On the page Snoopy "talks". He thinks to himself in English, giving us insight into his mind. But in animation, Snoopy has never spoken a word. True to that tradition, he won't be talking in the new film either. What's wonderful about Bill Melendez' voice work for the character is that it seemed to make Snoopy easy to understand despite him uttering nothing but jumbled little noises. The cute laughs and chuckles, coupled with his anthropomorphic actions made him just as coherent at Charlie Brown. Knowing that the filmmakers are not breaking from that tradition in addition to so many others is further reassurance that the film is primed for success. The Peanuts property as a whole has always acknowledged and honored its past and present. Charles Schulz wrote all of the specials until the recent Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown. At the time that was a huge feat for the creative team of writer Stephan Pastis and director Andrew Beall. So far, every sign we've been given about this future film is that the creators are treating it with the utmost respect and reverence.
