10 Reasons The New Peanuts Film Will Be A Complete Success
7. The Music
Equally important to the Peanuts legacy is the music that went along with it. Jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi was approached by former Peanuts television specials producer Lee Mendelson in the early 1960's to compose the music for a documentary about Charles Schulz. Eventually that relationship turned into one of the most significant pieces of Peanuts history. The theme, Linus and Lucy - which can be heard in the new teaser trailer - is musically synonymous with all the Peanuts characters. Several other composers who have worked on Peanuts specials after Guaraldi's passing have made it a point to mention him as inspiration. Even when scoring the music for a simple television special, the pressure was on to live up to, not just Charles Schulz' vision, but Vince Guaraldi's music as well. Hopefully the music of the new film will follow in those footsteps. Many fans have expressed concern about some of the characters singing or dancing to popular music but, after being reassured by Paul Feig that the characters won't be doing anything out of character, there's no reason to fret just yet. Given what we know already, the film is being crafted carefully and precisely; any misstep could mean disaster. When you're a major studio hoping for box office returns in order to justify a franchise, you don't want to make any major mistakes that might alienate your core audience. Not only will people be expecting the film to look and feel like most other Peanuts specials, but to sound like one as well. Given that the rest of the production is so focused on detail and faithfulness, the music will absolutely fall under that same blanket of scrutiny.
