10 Reasons Prometheus 2 Should Be Scrapped For Alien 5

1. We Want Unpretentious, Straightforward Storytelling

Prometheus was nothing if not a deeply ambitious movie that wanted to grapple with the very idea of humanity's existence, and our desperate desire to know where we came from. It's a superb idea if you nail it, but if you can't live up to the promise, it just plain sucks, and it's probably better not to bother. Sadly the script Scott had to work with couldn't match his visual majesty and clear passion to craft an original, intelligent sci-fi, for though it presents plenty of intriguing ideas, the payoff is ultimately disappointing and the philosophical content as a result feels shallow rather than provocative and entertaining. All Prometheus says to us is that Scott and co. aren't really prepared to tackle these heady concepts with any depth or intelligence, and so why should we expect any different from Prometheus 2? There's an argument to be made that Alien 5 would be a far more desirable project because it'd probably be an unpretentious, down-the-line Alien movie, hopefully in closer vein to the first two movies, but set on Earth. Hinting at these epic, sweeping themes is fine, but if they're going to become the entire basis for the movie, they need to be water-tight, and that they were not in Prometheus. What future would you like to see for the Alien franchise? Or are you looking forward to Prometheus 2? Let us know in the comments!
